Andre,

The largest component of the difference is that iPad is available for a federal tax savings called MP do BEM that is not available for iPhone 5s and we pass all of this savings to the customers. As you probably know, taxes and duties and substantially higher in Brazil than most countries.

Hi Tim,

The R$1100 local price difference highlighted by the consumer for these two products is primarily driven by the following three factors:

(R$ 330 or 30%) Differences in product sourcing — iPhone 5s is imported from China with higher total costs & taxes, while iPad Air realizes some savings due to local production in Brazil
(R$ 484 or 44%) Federal Tax savings (MP do BEM) — iPad Air is eligible for a PIS & COFINS tax exemption that the iPhone 5s doesn’t receive
(R$ 286 or 26%) Differences in US Price and Channel terms — The phone has channel margins in Brazil but not in the US (while the iPad has similar terms between both the US and Brazil) so the R$ price for the phone would higher than the US equivalent price; plus there is a $20 higher US price for iPhone 5s
The FX pricing rates between the 2 weren’t that different. I hope this is helpful and please let me know if you have additional questions.

Best Regards,

Kevan

Hi Tim Cook,

Could you please answer my question or direct this message to someone that can answer?

My point is:

iPad Air 4g 64gb
Apple Store USA = $829
Apple Store Brazil = R$2499

iPhone 5s 64gb
Apple Store USA = $849
Apple Store Brazil = R$3599

Which is the reason for this difference? Cell phone companies?

Thanks for your time.
